Greetings Sullivan’s Island Residents,

Hurricane Preparedness

Now is the time to finalize your hurricane preparedness efforts!
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30, and despite the relatively quiet start to the season, it only takes one storm to significantly impact our community. For that reason, we encourage all Island residents not to let their guard down. Preparing now is the best way to protect your family, your property, and our community.

This past weekend, a weak low-pressure system developed off the Carolina coast, serving as a reminder that tropical weather can develop quickly. While there are currently no tropical systems forecast to impact South Carolina, we are now approaching the most active part of hurricane season, from mid-August through late October. We encourage all residents and property owners to take the following steps:

  • Develop a hurricane plan. If you are new to Sullivan's Island, Town Hall staff are available to provide information on hurricane preparedness, protecting your property, and evacuation procedures. Additional planning resources are available on the Town's website and through Charleston County.
  • Obtain your Town vehicle identification pass. The Town's vehicle tag system helps facilitate re-entry to the Island following a natural disaster or other emergency. If you have not yet obtained your pass, please stop by Town Hall during normal business hours.
  • Stay informed. If emergency operations become necessary, the Town will provide updates through the Town website, social media channels, and the Everbridge emergency notification system. We strongly encourage all residents to register for emergency alerts before a storm threatens our area.

Sign up for Everbridge today to receive Town emergency notifications!

Thank you for doing your part to prepare. Early planning helps ensure a safer and more resilient Sullivan's Island for everyone.
