Joe Henderson

Greetings Sullivan’s Island Residents,

It is with great enthusiasm that I assume the role as your next Town Administrator! I am deeply honored to have been entrusted with this crucial role and look forward to continuing to serve the Island’s residents as I have for many years.

Since the date of my hire in 2013, I’ve grown to understand the many issues, challenges and needs of the Town’s residents and truly believe we have a dedicated and talented group of Town employees, department heads and Council Members to assist me in addressing these challenges and needs.

Town Council and staff have achieved remarkable accomplishments in the past ten years; from the construction of the new Town Hall and fire station complex, to the re-construction of a new wastewater treatment facility. As we look to the future, however, we are confronted with a unique set of environmental challenges and threats. To address the ever-looming issues of sea-level rise and storm surge inundation, Town Council has initiated a comprehensive stormwater master plan and resiliency study along with numerous drainage improvement projects slated to take place over the next several years. Our staff stands at the ready to manage these monumental projects as they take shape!

Additionally, Council has initiated multiple projects focused on improving recreational opportunities for Islanders, including several projects to improve access to open spaces and protection of historic and cultural resources. One such project, the Stith Park Master Planning effort, is nearing completion and will provide the long-term vision for what is sure to be a state-of-the-art recreational epicenter for Island residents.

In closing, the next several years are sure to be busy ones for our staff and Council! I truly appreciate the opportunity and trust Council has bestowed in me in carrying out these important projects and initiatives and I look forward to ensuring our dedicated team of employees continue providing public services in a professional, responsive and courteous way for all Island residents and visitors.

See you around Town!

Sincerely,

Joe Henderson
