The Municipal Election Commission of the Town of Sullivan’s Island will conduct the Town of Sullivan’s Island Municipal Election on Tuesday, May 2, 2023.

The following offices shall be included in this election:

Three Council seats – 4-year term

Citizens desiring to be candidates for the above offices may file at the Town Hall, 2056 Middle Street, Sullivan’s Island, SC 29482.

Books will be open for candidate filing, Tuesday, January 17, 2023, and remain open during regular business hours until Thursday, February 16, 2023.  By Noon on Thursday, February 16, 2023, all petition candidates must have their petitions and Statement of Economic Interest forms submitted to the Town Clerk of the Town of Sullivan’s Island.  The petition must have signatures from at least five percent (5%) of registered voters from the geographical area covered by the office sought by the candidate. 

Persons desiring to vote in the upcoming municipal election must be registered to vote. The last day to register at the County Board of Voter Registration office is March 31, 2023. The last day to register online to vote is April 2, 2023.  Applications by mail to the County Board of Voter Registration office must be postmarked no later than April 3, 2023. 

Absentee ballots may be requested and mailed from the Board of Elections and Voter Registration Office of Charleston County. 

Early voting is available to all registered voters at the Board of Elections and Voter Registration Office, 4367 Headquarters Road, North Charleston. The hours for early voting is 8:30-5:00 pm Monday through Friday, beginning April 17 and ending on April 28, 2023.

At 9:00 a.m. the day before Election Day, the Sullivan’s Island Municipal Election commission will begin the examination of the absentee ballot return envelopes. This process will take place at the board of Elections and Voter Registration office, 4367 Headquarters Road, North Charleston.

This is a nonpartisan election and no party affiliation shall be placed on the ballot.

The polling place for this district is Sunrise Presbyterian Church, 3222 Middle Street, Sullivan’s Island, SC 29482.

The polls shall open at 7:00 a.m. on election day, and close at 7:00 p.m.

On Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 12:00 noon at the Town Hall of Sullivan’s Island, the Municipal Election Commission will hold a hearing to determine the validity of ballots challenged in this election.

Any run-off, if needed, will be held two weeks after the election on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.
