Hurricane Dorian- Message #9

Wed, 09/04/2019

Good afternoon Island residents,

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR ISLAND RESIDENTS –

  • There is still time to evacuate; if you do not feel comfortable on the Island LEAVE NOW
  • Flooding is expected – move your belongings from lower levels and relocate you vehicles to higher elevations
  • Tropical storm winds are expected with potential for gusts up to hurricane force wind speed
  • Mt. Pleasant, Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island do not have any plans to close their respective causeways at this time. Flood slack water (high tide) on Thursday is 0103 hours with a 5.5 tide plus flood surge.  The Police Departments will be monitoring conditions throughout the evening and make a decision regarding access near flood slack water (high tide) accordingly.  Nevertheless the important consideration is NO NOT DRIVE THROUGH WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE. The storm surge may take some time to recede on Thursday; therefore, mobility may still be compromised that morning.
  • Controlled access after the storm event is be dependent upon the extent of damage and time needed for assessment

This message will provide you with the latest information on the storm, evacuation order from the Governor and what the Town staff is doing to protect the Island.
