Hurricane Fiona- Message #2

Wed, 09/21/2022

Good afternoon Island residents,

Just a short note to advise the latest information from the National Hurricane Center about tropical activity in the Atlantic basin:

  1. Hurricane Fiona – the models continue to be in agreement that the storm will take a northerly turn today and pass safely well off the coast of Sullivan’s Island late tomorrow evening/early Thursday morning. As mentioned yesterday expect northeast wind, moderate to strong rip current and higher than normal swells during this time. Continue to monitor the local media outlets for the latest developments in the storm track.
  2. Invest 98L – this area of disturbance is located in the general area of 11N lat/54W long traveling west northwest at 15mph. There is general agreement that this area of interest could become a tropical storm in the next five (5) days.  Early forecasts show the storm moving into the Gulf of Mexico. This is another system to keep an eye on into the weekend.
  3. While not on the NHC map yet, a system of rain and upper level convection moved off of the Sahara this afternoon. It shows potential for development this week.

Street Sweeper – The Town will have a street sweeper on the Island Wednesday and Thursday of this week to clean debris from the curbs and gutters.  For those residents living on Middle Street from Breach Inlet to Station 12 Street, it would be very helpful if you could relocate your parked car or boat off of the roadway before 8am.  A clean curb and gutter helps stormwater move off of the street quicker and keeps the pipes clean during a rain event.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Town Hall.
