Greetings Island residents,
As the Memorial Day weekend holiday approaches I wanted to pass along a few items of interest to everyone.
Summer Holiday Household Garbage Collection
Charleston County Curbside Recycle Program
On June 6, 2022 Republic Services will take over collection of recyclables for Charleston County. Collections will remain every other Wednesday. For Sullivan’s Island residents the next recycle collection would normally be on Wednesday 6-1-22 but because of Memorial Day the collection will by Thursday 6-2-22. This will be the last collection performed by Charleston County. The next recycle in the County program will be Wednesday 6-15-22 and will be performed by Republic Services.
Charleston County remains responsible for all collections. Missed collections should be reported to Charleston County Environmental Management at 843-720-7111.
2022 Hurricane Season
June 1 marks the beginning of the 2022 hurricane season. Early comments from the experts indicate the South Atlantic basin is in for another busy season. Town staff has already begun its preparation for the hurricane season this year. It is never too early to prepare your family hurricane plan. For further information, visit the Town website www.sullivansisland.sc.gov or Charleston County’s website at www.charlestoncounty.org for useful information. Hurricane Alex is first up so stay tuned for further information from Town Hall and to the Weather Channel when things start to develop.
Dorchester Paws
For the past few months Town staff has been working with Dorchester Paws in their “Mutts for Miles” program in an effort to give the shelter dogs a fun day at the beach. On Thursday June 2 from 4pm to 7pm shelter officials will be in Stith Park near the bandstand with several dogs available for adoption. If you have been searching for a family pet please consider adoption. If you would like to make a donation or drop off a bag of dog food to help out, please feel free to stop by Town Hall anytime next week. Click here for the flyer and their wish list. You may also contact Jacky Gypin in Town Hall at 843-883-5743 for more information.
Best regards for a pleasant Memorial Day weekend.
Regards,
Andy Benke
