Greetings Sullivan’s Island Residents,

Town staff is excited to announce that several important stormwater drainage projects are expected to be fully implemented by the end of August 2026. The timing could not be better, as we approach the peak of the Atlantic hurricane season. These projects address several areas of Sullivan’s Island that have experienced chronic flooding and drainage problems for many years.

Below is a brief overview of these important stormwater improvements:

Pump House Rehabilitation – Station 18 & Atlantic Avenue
All new equipment has been installed and tested, restoring functionality to a pump house that has been out of service for over 20 years. The rehabilitation will provide additional flood protection for residents in the Station 18 and Atlantic Avenue areas and may also help alleviate flooding originating near the Lighthouse property around Station 18½.

Station 28½ & Station 31 Stormwater Basin Improvements – SCIIP
This $10 million South Carolina Infrastructure Investment Program (SCIIP) project is scheduled for completion in late August. The project includes new stormwater pipes, drainage infrastructure, and outfalls throughout the neighborhoods surrounding Station 28½ and Station 31, areas that have experienced significant flooding for many years.

Osceola Avenue & Station 9½ Outfall Improvements
This project includes reconstruction of the primary outfall and drainage infrastructure serving neighborhoods between Station 9½ and Station 11. Improvements include new check valves, restoration of the drainage ditch to deep water, and cleaning of existing ditches and drainage structures. These improvements are expected to provide much-needed relief from localized flooding in the area.
For more information about these projects and other stormwater improvements currently under construction or in the planning phase, please visit the Town’s Stormwater Projects webpage.
