Dominion Energy Tree Triming Q&A

Tue, 12/19/2023

Dominion Energy will be conducting tree trimming on Sullivan's Island in the near future. As part of a five-year cycle to maintain the safety, resiliency and reliability of the electric system, crews will begin working on the Island to safeguard the power lines from overgrown trees and vegetation.

In the next few weeks, Xylem Tree Experts will work along the rights of way to ensure safe clearances by removing potential hazards such as dead or damaged trees, overgrown limbs and other forms of vegetation. Trees that have grown too close to overhead power lines are a safety hazard and the leading cause of power outages. Crews will remove debris as soon as possible, and some cleanup work may be scheduled after trimming is complete.

In some areas where volunteer woody vegetation is present, a follow-up herbicide treatment may be required. Herbicide is generally not applied to lawns or managed areas.

Representatives from Dominion Energy held an open house at Town Hall on December 19, 2023 at 5pm to explain the 5-year trimming program and field questions from residents. At the December Town Council later that evening, the utility gave a presentation of the program to members of Council.
