Hurricane Dorian- Message #6

Sun, 09/01/2019

URGENT MESSAGE FROM THE TOWN OF SULLIVAN’S ISLAND

Governor’s Evacuation Order – Effective Immediately

Because the latest National Hurricane Center information has determined that Hurricane Dorian may severely impact the State of South Carolina, Governor McMaster has ordered an evacuation of several littoral counties including Charleston County (Zones A, B and C) effective immediately.  Sullivan’s Island is located in Zone C of Charleston County.

Beginning at Noon Monday 9-2-19 the eastbound lanes on I-26 will be reversed to allow for maximum departure from the coastal areas. Once on I-26, the next exit will be Columbia. The SCDOT will provide exits for fuel and emergency assistance. Highway Patrol, National Guard, Sheriffs’ Deputies from various counties and local police will be coordinating the reversal.  Local media will be providing route details.

The Town will man the Municipal Emergency Operations Center at Town Hall beginning at 9am Monday 9-2-19.

Hopefully you have a well thought out disaster plan and have begun to place the plan into action by now.

If you have any questions contact Town Hall at 843-883-3198 Option 3, then Option 0. Otherwise, information will be passed along as available through email, the Town website, Facebook and Twitter.

PLEASE TAKE ALL MEASURES TO MOVE YOUR FAMILY OUT OF HARMS WAY WHILE POSSIBLE. IT MAY BE THE CASE THE TOWN FIRST RESPONDERS CANNOT REACH YOU UNDER EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS.

Regards,

Andy Benke
