Good Afternoon Island Residents,

The Town received the email below this morning and wanted to share it with residents that may want to attend the SCDES's Bureau of Coastal Management's open house opportunities.

SCDES’s Bureau of Coastal Management (BCM) will be hosting two educational open houses for Phase II of the 2024-2028 Beachfront Jurisdictional Lines Review. BCM is hosting two open house locations so attendees can choose whichever is most convenient; both events will provide the same material.

The first open house is focused on the Greater Charleston Area and will take place on Tuesday, July 28th from 5pm to 7pm at the Keith Summey Library, 3503 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29405. The Phase II beaches in the greater Charleston area include Seabrook Island, Kiawah Island, Folly Beach, Morris Island, Sullivan's Island, Isle of Palms and Dewees Island.

The second open house is focused on the Greater Edisto Area and will take place on Thursday, August 6th from 5pm to 7pm at St. Paul's Hollywood Library, 5130 SC-165, Hollywood, SC 29449. The Phase II beaches in the greater Edisto area include Edisto Beach, Edingsville Beach, Botany Bay/Pockoy, Seabrook Island, and Kiawah Island. 

These drop-in, informational events are designed to educate the public on the beachfront jurisdictional lines review process, with SCDES BCM staff present to answer questions about the Phase II beaches. There are currently no new lines available for Phase II beaches, and public comments will not be recorded at this time. Public hearings for the Phase II lines will be scheduled once the proposed lines have been made available, along with a public comment period.
