Coastal Low Pressure Weather Alert- 06/03/2025

Tue, 06/03/2025

Released by Charleston County Emergency Management Department
Department of Public Safety
Patrick Dollason, EM Specialist
Website: www.charlestoncounty.org

Good morning,

As we enter the first week of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season, Charleston County Emergency Management is closely monitoring a developing coastal low-pressure system near the Florida and Georgia coast. According to the National Weather Service’s 6:00 AM briefing this morning (attached), this system is expected to push inland across coastal South Carolina and Georgia late Wednesday into Thursday.

At this time, impacts for our area could include:

  • Rainfall totals of 1–3 inches, with isolated higher amounts over 5 inches possible, especially in coastal areas. Minor flooding in low-lying or poor drainage areas is possible.
  • Breezy conditions, particularly near the beaches, with a 15–25% chance of wind gusts exceeding 40 mph, which could down branches and cause isolated power outages.
  • A Moderate Risk for rip currents, which may increase through the end of the week.
  • Marine hazards, including rough seas and potential Small Craft Advisories.

While the system has a low chance of acquiring tropical or subtropical characteristics, its impacts will be similar regardless of development status. At this time, we do not anticipate any need to activate, but we will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as appropriate.

We strongly recommend that all county partners and stakeholders take this opportunity to prepare themselves and their families for hurricane season, which officially began on Sunday. Early preparation ensures we can remain focused on our responsibilities should more significant threats arise later this season.

Please review the attached NWS briefing for further details, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions or need assistance.
