Council has recently tasked Thomas and Hutton with exploring additional recreation concepts for the Stith Park Master Plan which could further enhance the Park experience.  To gather additional information, the engineer has been asked to delay the presentation scheduled for April 16, 2024 to a later to be determined date. Appropriate notification will be provided for the rescheduled presentation date.

A Message from the Town Administrator- November 22, 2021

Mon, 11/22/2021

Andy Benke

Greetings Island residents,

There is less than a week until Thanksgiving arrives and given next week includes two Town holidays, I wanted to send along a few items of interest to you.

Thanksgiving Holiday Schedule
The Town will observe Thursday 11-25-21 and Friday 11-26-21 as holidays.  Town Hall will be closed in observance of the holidays; however, all departments serving as first responders and essential services will be fully staffed and standing-by at the ready to assist.

For non-emergency assistance from Police, Fire or Water and Sewer please contact Charleston County Consolidated Dispatch at 843-743-7200. In the event of an EMERGENCY always dial 9-1-1.

No adjustments to the household garbage or yard debris collection are anticipated for Thanksgiving week.  It is an off week for recycle collections on the Island so that collection is not impacted either.

Christmas and Hanukkah Season
The Town will mark the coming Christmas and Hanukkah season with the annual lighting of Stith Park on Friday 12-3-21 beginning just before dusk.  Entertainment this year will include the Wando Chorus, fireworks display and possible visit by a special guest from the North Pole. Be sure to mark your calendar and attend the festivities.

Helping Others During the Holidays
The Sullivan’s Island Police Department will be hosting its first annual Bike Drive to benefit Toys for Tots.  Island residents and visitors are invited to drop off donations of new bicycles to the Sullivan’s Island Police Department located at Town Hall 2056 Middle Street on Sullivan’s Island between now and December 19, 2021. Donations are accepted during business hours between 9am and 5pm, Monday through Friday. For after hours and weekend donations, or for additional information or questions, please contact the event coordinator, Officer Glenn Meadows at 843-834-4298.  All bikes will be delivered to Toys for Tots on Monday, December 20, 2021. Town residents and visitors who wish to volunteer assembling bikes or for the delivery event are welcome.  The Police Department has set a goal of 200 bikes to be donated to Toys for Tots.  Be sure to like and follow the new Sullivan’s Island Police Department Facebook page at Facebook.com/SIPDSTRONG for news and updates.

2021 Hurricane Season
There are less than two weeks remaining in the 2021 hurricane season. The Town and east coast in general were very fortunate this year. Hopefully those who are new to the littoral lifestyle were able to create a hurricane plan for this year.  Be sure to keep it handy and ready to dust off and update next year on June 1, 2022. That date will come around quicker that you think. In the meanwhile if you have any follow up questions related to hurricane planning please do not hesitate to contact Town Hall.

Town Council Meetings in December
Town Council will hold its workshop meeting on Monday 12-6-21 and Council meeting on 12-21-21. Agenda is posted to the website 24 hours in advance of the meeting and each meeting is live streamed if you cannot attend.

Wishing you all the best for a pleasant Thanksgiving weekend.

Regards,

Andy Benke
