COVID-19 Resident Message #10

Mon, 04/20/2020

Good evening Island residents,

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention indicate that South Carolina is still in the acceleration phase of the COVID-19 pandemic.  There is no evidence from medical professionals to indicate that the threat of COVID-19 in our region has diminished. Although the reduction in growth of new cases has slowed, new cases could begin to grow rapidly if social distancing restrictions are lifted.

It is anticipated that Governor McMaster will lift the restrictions on beach access stipulated in Executive Order 16.  However, please be advised that the littoral municipalities of Isle of Palms, Folly Beach, Edisto Beach and Sullivan’s Island will continue to operate their respective checkpoints with the access restrictions currently in place.  Additionally, Charleston County Parks will also remain closed where located in a beach community.

The littoral municipalities will continue to collaborate on a coordinated, measured and staggered strategy to safely re-open our communities.

Click here to see the joint press release.

Access restrictions previously outlined in Message 9 remain in effect.

Regards,

Andy Benke
Town Administrator
