Garbage Collection

The Town of Sullivan’s Island has contracted with Republic Services to provide comprehensive garbage and debris collection. The cost of one trash can is included in when you pay your annual property taxes. If you wish to pay for an additional trash can you may contact Republic Services at 843-552-4751. If you wish to report missed collection or alert the driver of a large item or pile please call Town Hall at 843-883-3198

Household Garbage

Household garbage is collected every Tuesday with additional pickup on Fridays from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Trash cans may be placed curbside the night before but must be out before 7:00 am on the day of service to ensure collection. Any garbage not in a trash can will not be collected. Do not mix yard debris or metal with household garbage.

Yard Debris

Yard debris is collected every Wednesday. Yard debris is defined as grass clippings, leaves, limbs, twigs, palm fronds or the combination of these thing that is associated with routine lawn maintenance. Yard debris must be bagged in paper bag and limbs must be cut to under 4 feet in length and 4 inches in diameter. Please keep piles under 5 cubic feet to expedite pickup.

Bulk & Household Debris

Bulk and household debris, also known as white goods, are collected every Wednesday. Bulk items are defined as household furniture, appliances, mattresses, lawn furniture and the like. Refrigerators and freezers are accepted, however, the freon must be removed and the doors must be removed and secured to prevent entrapment. Electronic waste, concrete blocks or brick and hazardous materials, including oil and paint, must be disposed of by the home owner. If you have large items for collection we encourage you to call Town Hall at 843-883-3198 in advance to alert the driver and ensure pickup. Landscapers and contractors are required by law to haul away all of their yard debris and construction debris. Republic Services and The Town of Sullivan’s Island will not haul it away.

Recycle

Charleston County Environmental Management operates single stream recycling collection on Sullivan’s Island every other Wednesday. Single stream recycling means that all eligible recyclable materials may be combined in the blue, 95-gallon roll out carts without having to sort the materials. Carts must be placed at the curb before pickup begins at 7am. What Can Be Recycled?

These items include most types of common glass, plastics, paper and cardboard. Cardboard must fit into the roll out cart or be broken down into 3x3 foot pieces and stacked neatly next to the cart. Boxes with Styrofoam or other packing materials inside may not be collected. Hazardous Material Disposal

Hazardous waste poses a threat to the environment when not disposed of correctly. Charleston County Environmental Management has many drop off locations to make it convenient and easy to dispose of hazardous waste. These materials include household cleaners, pesticides, batteries, used motor oil, light bulbs and paint. Electronics are now considered hazardous waste. Computers, monitors, printers and TVs will no longer be picked up curbside.
